Global Overweight in children

Prevalence of overweight in children around the Globe

Notes for researchers

The table highlights the % prevalence of overweight in children around the globe by gender. The countries are selected on the appropriateness and availability of the data. Cut off point used for defining overweight in children are highlighted in table. The surveys are not strictly comparable because of differences in age range and methodology. With the limited data available, prevalence’s are not age standardised.

IMPORTANT: Self-reported data is notorious for inaccuracy in estimating BMI. The degree of inaccuracy generally varies by age, gender, socio-economic class, education, nationality and ethnicity and other factors and should not be compared against surveys using measured heights and weight.
